Big Joke goes to China in latest call center bust

Globetrotting crime buster Surachet Hakpal was in China yesterday arresting six Thais and a Taiwanese ringleader of a call center gang.

 

The gang have been swindling Thai people out of millions.

 

Pol Maj Gen Surachet - who was in Dubai the other week before attending to crime at home - flew with his entourage to Xiamen where cooperation with the local police and Thai consul resulted in a raid on a luxury condo in Zhangzhou.

 

A Taiwanese called "Asang" and his six Thai lackeys were caught red-handed phoning victims in Thailand. Electronic evidence was gathered along with names of victims.

 

There was also prepared speech sheets for the callers who were pretending to be senior Region 4 police chiefs to extort money.

 

 

Surachet - the deputy commissioner of the tourist police known as Big Joke in the Thai media - said that a 77 year old Thai woman was swindled out of 150,000 baht by the gang on March 15th in Ratburana district.

 

The gang had been in Laos and only moved to China a month ago, he added.

 

The Thais will be prepared for deportation back to Thailand to face prosecution.
