I have posted a link to the current interest rate on offer from one of "The Big 4" banks in Australia. It's 5.30%. Funds make more, but let's run the numbers on solid bank interest. At 5.30%, one would only need around 3,400,000 Thai baht for a yearly return of around 180,000 baht a year, or 15,000 a month. If we divide 3,400,000 (possible purchase price) by 15,000 (monthly rent) we get 226 months. Dived 226 months by 12 to get years, and it's nearly 19 years. If one retired at 65 years of age, they would have to live to 84 years of age to be ahead of the renters. The age is actually higher because during that 19 years there are taxes, fees, maintenance etc to pay. Why bother buying?
