Heavy rains forecast in most parts of the country until next week

BANGKOK, 28th March 2018 (NNT)-The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains in most parts of the country due to a low pressure trough in upper parts of the country.

According to meteorologists, in addition to the low pressure system, a south westerly wind in the Gulf of Thailand will also bring heavy rains to certain parts of the North, North East, South and Central Region including Bangkok and its vicinity.

Another high pressure trough from China is expected to reach the North East and East of Thailand on Thursday. It will bring heavy rains and gusty winds to the region as well as to the South of Thailand until Monday. Residents in these areas have been advised to be cautious when going outside during the adverse weather conditions.

Technically it will cause heavy rain not actually bring it as a high pressure area doesn't contain a lot of water vapour.

As it pushes the water vapour laden low pressure areas up it causes them to start dropping all the water vapour they contain as rain.

Seems that it is getting often very stormy around BKK lately ?.....is this normal for this time of the year ?

  • Popular Post

I think the first three months of the year have been strange weather-wise this year.  We are at the end of March and it is normally already sizzling hot, but this year it hasn't been as hot as usual so far. The cool season carried on longer than in the past 10 or so years and un-seasonal rain has been quite common, especially in central Thailand.

This is unusual, mostly it stops raining around december untill around may....maybe 1 or 2 rainy days in that period...or none at all....and it was very hot from half march....

I'm happy with this weather though...don't need the 36+ days with the burning hot sun.

Another week, another "it's gonna pour everywhere" notice but Chiang Mai is as dry as it can be.

Rain please rain.....

Keep hearing these announcements and deferring topping up the pool, but not seen much rain in Pattaya.

Yes, this is PARA-NORMAL that it's gonna rain more often this year,.......

Nice, moderate 30 min rain shower in my slice of The Big Mango this morning.

BKK March temps have been a bit below avg...fine by me! And historically, April is when more frequent rains start returning after the dry season.

April and May are major parts of the dry season

Bring it on. A nice downpour will help alleviate the dust and PM. And keep the rice field arsonists at bay.

By PM I mean particulate matter, not the Prime Minister. But it would also be nice if the rain kept the Toad Whisperer indoors.

Not so for May...in BKK anyhoo. Guess it depends on the region, but weather patterns are a-changin'. As is clearly shown in the above chart Post #9 (data compiled 2018), April in BKK is now averaging 110 mm...while the b&w chart below (data up to 2000) shows BKK April rain avg at about 90 mm...more than 20% increase!

Both the old chart and the current chart show May being a relatively "wet" month. The 2018 data shows it to be same as June & July and more than Aug! The older data shows May being slightly less than the following 3 months. While still another chart (bottom) shows May being the 3rd wettest month!

Interesting stuff. :coffee1:

Up here in Udon just clouds, no rain really. Total rainfall over the last 5 months has been under one inch. Driest i have seen in 10 years.
