Pet Relocation from Thailand to Australia

Featured Replies

My family and I are in the process of moving back to Australia and planning to take our two dogs with us.  We are currently looking into two providers:

Jasons Pet relocations (Singapore)

Ricted Kennels and Relocation (Thailand and Singapore)

Appreciate if anyone has any recommendations, particularly for either of the above.

You cannot import dogs into Australia from Thailand or any other country where rabies is present.

@Oink  You are correct however, you can import them from a "Group 2 or 3" country.  In our case in Thailand that is normally done via Malaysia or Singapore. It takes a little longer but is definitely acceptable to Dept of Agriculture and Water Resources in Oz.

That would seem like a good work around!

OP not sure why you are asking this in the Pattaya forum? Maybe better in General or in Plants, vets and Pets for a better response?

I looked at this a few years back and you cannot go direct from Thailand the dogs must be quarantined in a country that Australia will accept direct from such as Singapore but the cost was prohibitive as you must pay all quarantine cost for the country that you are going to board the dogs in and then when the dogs arrive in Australia they must go into quarantine there for several weeks I think it was I cannot remember but it was a lot of time in quarantine in Singapore and the cost was in the thousands of dollars, so I left my animal in Australia instead of doing the 2 way trip.

@Russell17au

You were lucky. We got our 2 when we moved to Thailand and can't bring ourselves to leave them there so going thru the process now. I think it is 5 weeks quarantine and testing in Singapore or Malaysia before 3 months in Melbourne. Singapore seems the more expensive of the two and we haven't made our minds up yet. Hence the original post to try to find others experiences.

The rules have recently been relaxes so the quarantine enroute in the Group 2/3 countries is now far less (used to be six months in Sing/Malaysia).

If you have not established contact with AAHL (Aust Animal Health Lab) yet please PM me and I’ll pass on the details.  They will instruct you on how to take the first batch of blood tests in Thailand and send to Australia and will provide the Import Permit for the serum sample. Second set of tests are done in the interim country.

If if you have time I suggest you take animal to KL or Singapore yourself - much faster and more reasonably priced than a pet agent. Then use an agent for the Sing/Melbourne leg (quarantines in Perth and Sydney have now closed).
