Popular Post Formaleins
I posted a while back that I had managed to get water into my tank when I was cleaning the bike. Well, yesterday I had washed the bike and was out and about and needed to get some petrol. When I opened the cap I saw that there was a pool of water in the outer channel around the filler. There is a drain hole there but the water was not draining out. I took the bike home and tried to clear the drain tube by threading a piece of heavy cable through it but it would not go further than about 12 inches. Eventually I got to the tube where it exits the bike near the rear of the front sprocket and tried sucking through it to see if I could clear it that way - no such luck. Anyway, in the end I pulled on the tube and it slackened and all the filthy crap came out. I checked the distance of the tube blockage and it looked to be right where the tank fits onto the frame. In fact it is at exactly the point where the tank is bolted on. Now I remember when the water problem began - I had the bike in at my local Honda shop for a valve check - (it is a PITA on this bike as it is shimmed and requires the tank to be removed along with radiator etc.) Anyway, it looks like the Honda guys had nipped the tube when they put the bike back together, so anyone out there with a CBR that is not draining, or if you have just had a valve check - take a look at your tank drain hose and make sure it is clear and not pinched. It will save you a bit of grief and keep water out of your fuel. 3
ktm jeff
Good of you to post the follow-up solution , many cant be bothered. Its a shame the "fitters" at Honda cant do a decent job.
BBJ
Stop water and any other crap getting in there with Guglatech advanced filters. Small price to pay for long-term protection and guaranteed clean fuel. Not the issue of the above but glad I put one in mine. Spurred on by a mate a few months ago that had water in the tank, rust and other stuff. He was using a station. As I often use some of the local bottled stuff and the old hand-pumped stuff on my travels, I stuck one in the tank. Doesn't slow filling of the tank and peace of mind, at least. AquaStop technology and far superior to the one that is standard. About 2,800 baht for the Africa Twin and other Japanese bikes.
