webfact
Trouble in Hua Hin! Mayor tells traders not to be selfish as fire could destroy market video screenshot Traders at a popular Hua Hin market are furious about being asked to give up some of the space they have enjoyed for decades. But the authorities say they need to do just that so emergency vehicles can get through in the event of a fire. They want more order and less do-as-you-please. The arguments are raging at Torung market in the seaside town between entrenched traders and their own association and the local authorities. Differing viewpoints were featured on a video that aired on the Thai Rath news media channel on Facebook. One female trader said Hus Hin was going down the drain. She couldn't do business. Another said all the foreigners had disappeared - it was terrible. A representative of the market committee said it was really quite simple - the traders had to expect to give up some of their four meter plots so that emergency vehicles can get through. Another market official said it's too narrow but they only have to give up a little space to make it workable. The mayor Noppaporn Wuthikun said the traders should not think just about themselves but the wider community. Many people were seen arguing in the video as the police tried to keep tempers from flaring into worse trouble. Thaivisa notes that the case is one of many in Thailand where encroachment that has been going on for decades is being challenged by authorities determined to bring more order to the country. billd766
Put nudge or Roo bars on the fire trucks or even cowcatchers. That should clear the way for the fire trucks.

observer90210
Sensible move from the Hon. Mayor. He seems a good man? But is he aware that the rogue space "allotted" is perhaps through some occult underground connection and contribution, towards some boys dressed in brown with golden wings and dark shades ? The other day in Bangkok, when I was enjoying the lovely scenery from one of the Bars just next to Nana Plaza, I saw a cop pull over on his scooter and a hand over a large carton of Heineken Beer to a street vendor. Now this is real public service but was unaware that home delivery of booze was included in the tasks of the cops ?!!!
Stargeezr
There is enough markets in Hua Hin, that if they cannot keep a way open incase of fire, they should not be in business. I have been visiting Hua Hin many years and have oftened wondered how the fire truck would get to a fire on walking street market, if one happened in the evening when the market was open? Of course I have been to a few markets in Bangkok like Chat O Chat, excuse the spelling, and have wondered about the same question. Geezer
fire2rescue99
Not just this market. Pat Pong night market would be a true conflagration if things went bad there. Same with the Krabi Town night market. No emergency vehicle way or access. Pay at attention to your surroundings. Have a plan if things go south.
