Representatives of the Tambon Plak Raed Municipality in Phitsanulok’s Bang Rakham district on Monday asked police to probe a missing Bt793,000 from its budget which was earmarked for municipal nursery funding.

Bang Rakham deputy superintendant Pol Lt Colonel Ketchai Nasorn said on Tuesday that the municipality had not yet filed charges because they had just discovered about the missing money.

The municipality found that finance staff members’ signatures were forged in 47 budget reimburements worth Bt793,127.65 in total but there were no back-up documents to show how the money was spent.

Police have advised deputy mayor Noppadol Yoolam to gather initial evidence and details and file a formal complaint later.

No need to worry there are plenty of inactive posts available !

Spect it  "dropped  down the back of the filing cabinet"

I guess 'forged signatures' does pretty much point to embezzlement.  Seek and ye shall find!

They only "changed" the way they usually sign, add a letter or leave one out and the business is done. Who else would know that?

Take the amount of Prayut's brother who's made false statements regarding house, land, and others. Little fish for him.

Who has the biggest extension or best car ?

Why the delay?!? Full steam ahead to catch the perps is needed...

Situation normal! Civil service corruption is rampant. What greater incentive is there to steal money when there are never any penalties or criminal charges. Stealing is part of life and culture for civil servants and that includes the RTP,  the education system and the customs department. The PM says he is going to eliminate corruption in his 20 year plan. Only 19 years to go.

Maybe I am being naive, but isn't gathering evidence rather the police's job?

yet another probe.

Not sure its "never" or at least we seldom hear about them in any sort of followup.
I'm going out on the limb and say most civil servants aren't partaking in the corruption.  It's more likely those at the top who are successful at using fear (to those who blow the whistle) in their crime or the department where the staff have been doing it successfully for years.
When someone with some integrity and courage starts taking charge around here and firing people at the very least, it will continue.

Something I've often thought about, maybe there's not enough forensic accountants in this country...or anyone capable of high level accounting skills to work out "where's the money".

More money gone on invisible kids chairs.

Reminds on this.

Son: "dad I consider a criminal career, what do you think?"

Father: "private sector, or government?"

Not yet. The headline states:

Probe sought

So they don't have a probe yet. With all the probes that we have read about over the past months I should have though that they could borrow a used one.
