Nigerians arrested over $400,000 theft

Featured Replies

Two Nigerian nationals were arrested in Phnom Penh on Monday for allegedly digitally stealing more than $400,000 from a bank. Chea Sok, deputy police chief of Prampi Makara district, identified the suspects as Rejoyce Isaac Chibunna, 48, and Isaac Chibunna, 50. They were arrested in Veal Vong commune.

“Now the accused are in custody at the district police station and we will send them to court [today],” Mr Sok said. He said the arrests were made after a lawsuit was filed by Leng Sovannavat, a representative of a bank in Tuol Kork district. The lawsuit alleged the two accused stole more than $400,000.

Police declined to reveal the name of the bank. In 2017, a total of 1,885 foreigners from 47 nationalities were arrested and deported, according to the annual report of the Interior Ministry.
