I guess not, Hainan is infact also referred to as the Hawaii of Asia and quite rightly so. Keep your eye on this island in the South China Sea as over the next ten years its intended to be the Hong Kong of the mainland

China is becoming far more fun and affordable. More people speak English or actually make an effort. There are TONS more business opportunities in China than in Thailand. You can buy beer anytime you want, and it is the good imported stuff for same price as the crap you get in Thailand. Spirits are wine are cheaper too. Hainan might also host world class theme parks, where Thailand may not. 1

My Thai friends might say " As stupid as those from Europe & America who want to come & settle down with a bar girl in Pattaya" . Different strokes for different folks, Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, Grass is always greener on the other side etc ....
keeniau96
Hainan is indeed much like Hawaii, including being a major military base hosting nuclear submarines in well-protected caves. No tourists allowed there.
taxout
The story is misleading. Thais and the other nationalities mentioned can't just show up in Hainan without a visa for a thirty-day stay. They have to make arrangements for their stay through a Hainan-based travel agency beforehand.
