U.S. Senate committee to vote on bill to protect Mueller next week

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The leader of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee said on Thursday the committee would vote on a bill to protect Robert Mueller, the special counsel appointed to investigate Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. election, despite objections by the chamber's Republican leadership.

Senator Chuck Grassley, the Judiciary Committee's Republican chairman, said he was keeping his word to the bill's backers that the panel would take up the measure if they reached a bipartisan compromise, which they had.

The committee will consider the legislation next week.

U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell had told Fox News on Tuesday that he would not allow a vote on the measure in the full Senate.

"Obviously the views of the majority leader are important to consider, but they do not govern what happens here in the Judiciary Committee," Grassley said at a committee meeting.

The legislation was co-authored by Republican Senators Thom Tillis and Lindsey Graham and Democrats Chris Coons and Cory Booker. The bill would make it harder for President Donald Trump to fire Mueller, or for any president to fire any special counsel, by allowing Mueller to seek a judicial review if he were to be dismissed.

I view him a villain who puts party above country. What he did when Obama was President it shameful to American politics unless one is ONLY interested in his party's rule/power.

An aside: Trump will be remembered as the most evil U.S. politician in history; his Republican Congress are enablers. What they allow they condone.

What a waste of time. Even by some miracle it was to pass congress Trump would never sign it and it will get a VETO from him which will never be overturned by Congress.  McConnell knows this, So why bother,

Giulianni has declared Trump has no plans to fire Muller.

Oh, and he has been added to the Trump lawyer team.

Phew. I was thinking of posting a crude comment about Trump, Rudy and fallatio. Fortunately I came to my senses before I did.

It doesn't matter at all what Giulianni says. "trump" is very impulsive when angered, it's known he's considered it before, and he's been clear not to rule it out. Last time I checked "trump" is president (tragic but true), not Giulianni.

Why would he even bother to fire him when 1 of his key witnesses is already in print and on a book tour bragging about breaking the law and lying under oath? It'll be much more fun discrediting him for the whole waste of taxpayer's money. Now with Comey turning on Lynch and McCabe and HC turning on everybody including your beloved news sources, the swamp gases (and gasbags) are making such pretty colors at night burning over DC. :coffee1:

You've been getting your updates from Hannity again.

19 witches indicted

5 witches pled guilty

1 witch sent to prison.

More to come.

Well PT has said its a witch hunt. Everyone knows if PT fires Mueller ,it would be a constitutional nightmare, besides firing Mueller would not stop the investigation .Seems to me there are other facts coming out from the IG report that will prompt others to respond in a constitutional manner ,that would benefit the country . Rothstein and Sessions are hanging on patiently waiting to hear the report .

Russians subjected to financial sanctions arising from Russia's interference in the US election might disagree with you.

Are you serious? Nobody sanctioned the hackers and they aren't rich businessmen. hell, they couldn't even find the hackers let alone identify them. :coffee1:

Yes I am serious, indictments against hackers, sanctions against some very wealthy, powerful and nasty Oligarchs.

It goes under the heading 'look what you've brought down on me'. Not something I'd want to have any responsibility for, especially when the DoJ go and publish my name and thereby let the subjects of the sanctions know who it is they must thank for their new found difficulties.
