  • Taxi drivers - crash course - an unfortunate choice of words...

  • does that mean they will drive full speed into objects while screaming the classics (in English) "shift finished I go home taxi no more " "brakes no good" "Meter broke"

  • Because not being able to communicate those things is the biggest problem between tourists and taxi drivers.

And while they are at it, teach them manners, to accept fares the way the come in and not everybody needs to see the content of their glove compartments full of sleazy torn catalogues of Turkish baths, massage parlours and no, thank you, I am not interested in women of the second gender ......

Yes, a crash English speaking course would be grammatically correct, but doesn't avoid the crash connotation.

Given their driving record,I agree they need a crush course, but since most of them speak Thai ,what good would it be to give it to them in English?

I LOVE it when my taxi driver does not speak English. I have seldom benefited from skilled English speakers who drive taxis. Just the basics, please.

So, as long as the Taxi driver can say hello, goodbye and ask for money in english then everybody is going to accept overpriced trips not using the meter.
