Hi there.

I'm living in Bangkok and will be starting as a teacher soon. I have all the documents I need, and as my tourist visa runs out on Monday I need to travel to Laos (I heard it's the most 'friendly') to get my non b visa so I can go ahead with my work permit.

My question is this. What would be the cheapest and easiest route to to take? And which embassy would I have to go to? Any tips on best times etc? I've never done it before so if anyone has a link to a walk through of what to do, it would be greatly appreciated!

Vientiane would be a good choice. You would apply at Thai embassy consular section.

You can fly to Udon Thani and take a van to the bridge in Nong Khai to cross over to Vientiane. You can also get a bus or train to Nong Khai from Bangkok.

Many reports on this forum about it.

Be aware the embassy will be closed on the 1st of May for a Holiday.

Vientiane would be my choice. Avoid Monday’s and Thursday’s as it’s busier on those days because the visa run companies are there.
