Border Run Mae Sai - Tachilek Myanmar

Featured Replies

My Passport nearly full - I thought ok - I make a nice extended Motorbike Tour from Udon Thani Province and drive to Mae Sai - around 850 km - so avoid the Lao Visa sticker.

Thought I would get a sticker in Myanmar too and made a Myanmar E- Visa for 50+ Dollar.

A friend with car joined the trip and he drove - as his GPS did not work 1450 km to Chiang Rai from 6 PM - 11 AM lol ha ha ha.?

We met in Chiang Rai - next day to border - I went for a 30 day Thai entry, he had a Thai Non Immigrant O Multiple Entry, but no Myanmar visa.

I was a bit before at the Myanmar control - he had to get a Car parking away from the busy border - but no Falangs. ?

Had short discussion as I asked for my friend visa on arrival - was told no have!

But on the end he got his stamps paid much less money then me and did not get a visa sticker.?

Why should anybody make then a Myanmar E visa.?

Bought Myanmar cigars and back TH got stamped in with 30 days visa exempt entry no questions asked - friendly woman staff.

Beautiful country side all over - special Chiang Khong and Nan - Pua - super nice Hotel Pua de view.

Good for road trip - I LIKE ??

You can get a border pass to enter Myanmar for a fee 500 baht or $10.

No need for a visa at land border crossings unless you are going further into Myanmar than the area near the crossing.

Thank you - and not get a Visa sticker - as I saw.

And - so next time do not need a expensive E- Visa to do such a Border run - yes?

Thank you ☺

Exactly ! You buy an e-visa only if you want enter Burma and travel in the country

The Border pass is only for up to 14 days and only in the Tachilek area.

If staying in Myanmar a few nights you need tell the officials as they fill out a different form.

I experienced that as at first they thought I was only going over and back but when I mentioned a hotel I was staying in for 2 nights about 3 km from the border, they wrote out a different "visa" form. Still only 500 baht though.

Correct

Just many times they do not let you do a visa run at Mae Sai.
Looks like you have to get there on a lucky day...

If you have a valid visa for entry to the country you can do as many as you need to.

If wanting a 30 day visa exempt entry you can only do 2 of them per calendar year at a land border crossing.
