BANGKOK, 28th May 2018 (NNT) – The Prime Minister has publicly apologized for excessive police force in their apprehension of Phra Buddha Issara but has assured the community he has no personal relationship with the monk and urged detractors to stop distorting facts.

Prime Minister’s Office Spokesman Lt Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd has relayed a response from Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha, concerning political groups speculating as to his relationship with senior monk Phra Buddha Issara after he apologized for what he deemed excessive force used in the monk’s arrest.

Lt Gen Sansern made known the PM’s affirmation that he was not showing any favoritism and that he did not have a personal relationship with the monk, originally named Suwit Thongprasert, but was apologizing due to the inappropriate action taken by authorities, a view he said he would hold regardless of their target.

The PM noted that as the arrest took place in the area of a temple, more sensitivity towards the feelings of Buddhists should have been exercised. He has asked that commentators not distort the impact of his words for political gain.

Gen Prayut assured the public that he has never let his personal relationships influence his political work and that his government’s only intention is to maintain the letter of the law.

Well we had Ninja Monks disappearing down secret passages so was it overkill??

Given that the Spaceship Monk did a runner as well they seem determined not to get egg on their faces this time- even though it now appears they have.

Just as a matter of interest how does a defrocked monk enter the monkhood to 'make amends' for his crimes and make it all go away? ?

That sounds like a classic case of foot-in-mouth disease there.

The good news is that no coyote dancers were harmed during the operation.

Don't remember any apology to the protestors last week.

Hypocrisy personified.

Translation "look he's a mate of my buddy Suthep and helped us overthrow the legally and democratically elected government and so this will disappear."

Sensitivity my eye, stop stealing and being greedy, converting with women, incite riots and preach hatred and division to the people, you're a monk for Budha sake, act like one...

Indeed that is true, he hides his love of Thaksin very well

Does the PM now deny the reason for the force used, that monks in the temple grounds were armed?

Being shot inside or outside temple grounds result in the same wounds. If people carry guns, it is normally not just for show, so how can unnecessary force be questioned/explained?

That guy is a first rate toss-pot.

I thought one of the other senior monks they went looking for at another temple scampered in a black vehicle and evaded arrest???

The Thai authorities seem to have problems setting up and maintaining effective containment perimeters, in addition to having problems keeping certain people alive once they've been taken into custody...

I not believe him.

Is he defrocked or has he been refrocked? So hard to keep up on his antics. If defrocked, call him by his real name: " originally named Suwit Thongprasert"

The only sure way to ward off evil spirits is to wear very expensive wristwatches.

Hear, hear, hear...

His assurance to protect him for 5 long years have been override. Better for him to keep quiet or his action may be interpreted as contempt. Not wise.

the letter of the law.

That changes depending on which way the political wind is blowing

He gets so worried over such things.  If they are distorted, he should just set the record straight without whining and hand wringing.

True that....

All comes back to the fact he is a bit dim and has a very high opinion of himself, probably started to believe the faecal matter his minions keep whispering in his ear

Believe that happens a lot when you are surrounded by fawning sycophants and nobody has the strength of character to point out where you are wrong...

Big problem with the juntas style of 'government' and that special Thai version of democracy is that nobody is allowed to put you straight so the 'leader' starts to believe in his own godlike infallibility....

He just puts his frocks back on. All is forgiven
