The bill on the election of MPs has been sent to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and a general election is expected to be held next year according to the junta’s roadmap, National Legislative Assembly chairman Pornpetch Wichicholachai said on Tuesday.

Mr Pornpetch said he sent the bill to the prime minister on Friday (June 8). The prime minister is expected to forward it to His Majesty the King for royal approval as required by the law.

He believed a general election would be held in 2019 in line with the political roadmap declared by the military junta which seized power in 2014. The election has been tentatively set for February.

The stage is being set for a flexible date dependant on the progress of the PM's election campaign. The day his ducks are in line that will be the date.
