Expected tax rate for a foreigner hired at a Thai company

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine is looking at an offer with a local Thai company. The offer was fairly high in Thai terms (although, obviously, not compared to Western salaries). However, the company indicated there would be a a 13-17% tax rate, bringing that high number down quite a bit. Is this normal and to be expected?

I wouldn't get out of bed in the morning for that kind of money, especially not with a Thai company where you will be expected to know and do everything asked of you, because you are supposed to be educated and get paid 3 times what a Thai engineer normally does.

Canada, Japan, United States   60,000 THB
Europe (incl. UK) Australia   50,000 THB
Hong Kong, Malaysia, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan   45,000 THB
China, India, Indonesia, Middle East, Philippines   35,000 THB
Africa, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam   25,000 THB
Persons working for newspapers in Thailand   20,000 TH

The above are the minimum salaries in order to get a work permit.  Tax to be charged will be on these salaries or above even if in fact your employer pays you less.

I don't believe these figures are for getting a WP only the minimum required to get an extension of stay at immigration.

There is no minimum wage for issuance of the WP.

You're absolutely correct.  The salaries quoted are the minimum to get an extension of stay based on employment.
