Former deputy interior minister and former deputy national police chief Pol Gen Vasit Dejkunjorn died late Wednesday night at the Police General Hospital after a battle with cancer. He was 88.

 

Vasit was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday and pronounced dead at 10.35pm.

 

Vasit was the commander of the Palace police before taking up the position of deputy director general of the Police Department. He was later named deputy interior minister.

 

He has written several novels about the police under the pen name Ko Bangkok and was honored as a national artist in 1998.

 

He was born on November 14 1929, in Tambon Nai Muang in Udon Thani's Muang district, attended Amnuay Silpa School and earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Chulalongkorn University. He furthered his education in the US, obtaining a master’s degree in public administration from New York University and receiving training in investigation techniques. He was also a student of Class 23 at the National Defence College.

 

He married Khunying Thassana (Bunnag) Dejkunjorn in 1957 and the couple had two children – Capt Dr Suthat Dejkunjorn and Pol Capt Preenapha Dejkunjorn.
