Tourist police have arrested a Singapore man for allegedly selling counterfeit luxury brand watches on his Facebook page.

Pol Maj-General Surachet Hakpal, deputy commissioner of the Tourist Police Bureau, told a press conference that Damiel Jian Tan Wei was arrested at his apartment room in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district on Wednesday.

Police said they seized 22 counterfeit watches bearing brand markings of Rolex, Omega, Patek Phillip, and IWC from his room. Officers also found a 9mm Noringo pistol and 10 rounds of ammunition in the room, Surachet said.

Surachet said an undercover officer contacted the suspect to buy a watch after police received complaints that he had been selling fake items in violation of copyright law on his IMTIME.TH Facebook page.

Surachet quoted the Singapore man as admitting that he bought counterfeit watches from China for Bt2,000 each to resell on the Facebook page for about Bt10,000 to Bt20,000 each. Surachet said Damiel claimed the Patek brand was most popular and that he earned profits of some Bt70,000 to Bt80,000 a month.

Surachet said Damiel entered Thailand in 2014 and his visa had expired.

Damiel was charged with breaching copyrights, overstaying his visa and possessing firearms without a licence.

He did breach the laws but looks like targeted as well. Shops with fully displaced "real" branded watches can be seen in latphrao-bangkapi malls for years and still selling peacefully. Isn't raiding these shops more satisfying?

Those retailers and the ones in Sukhumvit around Nana who are there day and night probably spotted him on Facebook and saw him as competition and dobbed him in.

Big Joke certainly loves his sign boards to pose in front of with his multitude of toadies. Fancy making up such a big signboard for one man selling a few fake watches. Anyone would be forgiven for thinking this smalltime scoundrel was  a big drug lord.

I used to have some time for him but now he is in the media almost daily. I think he has morphed from Big Joke into Big Poser.

Don't worry about Sukhumvit Road Big Joke Get you and your loooooovely side kick down here to Pattaya, there's plenty of work here for you what with fake watch sellers and cigarette sellers wandering the Soi's day and night. That's not to mention the noisy bikes and bike racing and a thousand other things.  The country must be loosing millions in revenue from the cigarette sellers, I've been quoted 500thb for a carton of Marlboro on the soi but at the local warehouse lady tells me 1200thb, somebody sure as hell making a huge profit.
