snoop1130
Democracy jungle: Monument to people's power now out of reach By Pravit Rojanaphruk, Senior Staff Writer A beacon of Thailand’s democratic flowering has taken on new symbolic meaning in the fifth year of military rule. When the occasion that brought democracy to Thailand passes all but forgotten Sunday, the Democracy Monument will be physically unreachable. Soaring above a busy traffic circle, its location has been covered with potted plants that make it clear visitors – especially demonstrators – are unwelcome. Popular Post Eligius
Pathetic. The depths this filthy junta will sink to - to block even the symbols of democracy from access by the people. Go on, junta: keep on prodding and goading the Thai people - again and again and again. Even the generally placid Thais might eventually leap up and bite your head off!
Lupatria
Those showing the three finger protest will be forced to wear flower garlands around the wrist. I wonder what they plan for the sandwich protesters,- parsley?
Matt96
please remind me, where did that "people's power" lead Thailand? to a dictatorship of Pleak Pibulsongkram, who effectively destroyed Thai culture and way of life (so-called cultural decrees), who allied Thailand with Japanese butchers who tested biological weapon on Chinese civilians (unit 731), and with Nazi Germany? who started a war for Cambodia which brought nothing but death to Thai people? seems like not so good experience... Popular Post Srikcir
Compare the lack of public access to this public monument on public land to the military's Rajabhakti Park built on military property. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rajabhakti_Park A sad state of priorities. 2
Popular Post DrTuner
Nicely symbolic. Democracy is something Thais are only allowed to view from a distance. 3
