I was in Phonom Penh this week and applied for a Non Imm O Type Single Entry Visa based on Marriage to a Thai National.

The lady at the Thai Embassy refused my application even though I had a copies of our Marriage Certificate, House Registration Document, Wifes ID Card and I even took my Thai Bank Account showing my funds.

Her reason for not accepting my paperwork was my wifes House Registration Document and ID Card still showed Miss. She informed me that we had been married more than a year and my wifes title should have been changed to Mrs. I was totally unaware of this and have never seen this rule anywhere.

I have posted this incase anyone else is about to try and obtain an O Type Visa based on Marriage.

If this is a rule where is it published and has anyone else experienced this before?

Actually you are normally instructed to change it immediately if you have the marriage registered in home District. Yes they need to show current martial status.

My understanding is that not required to change name. I obtained a non imm O from KL last month. Wife has not changed name. ounds like typical PP thai embassy staff hospitality to me. Unbelievable.

You are correct, the PP staff are rude and arrogant. When I informed her I was unaware of this "rule" and that I had never been informed of it even by the Amphur Office she just said " Your problem you should know". Yes unbelievable, I agree. I just want to inform people to be very careful about going to the PP Embassy. I will certainly not be going there again.

I did not say anything about change of name (although that used to also be required and most people do make the change) but the martial status from single to married.
