Yunnan Travel...changing Thai Baht

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am heading to Yunnan in China and I will be using Thai baht hehe.

I am wondering about which money to take?

Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a "thai traveller cheque"?

Or is a better option just to buy dollars?

Or...any other suggestions?

Any answers appreciated.......thanks in advance.

It's 2 years since my last trip to China, 3 years since I've been to Kunming. There are lots of Banks and ATM's. I always used my ATM-card issued by a small German bank (Cirrus, Maestro). Never a problem, except that the maximum amount was 2000 Yuan only (about 200 Euro) per withdrawal.

You can use your Thai debit card in Chinese ATMs but I'm not sure about the rate.

If you are changing money at banks, do not change baht into yuan or vice versa as the rates involve you losing 20% or more. Rather, get dollars in Thailand, travellers cheques or cash, and then exchange these dollars into yuan in China.
