Trump’s Approval Hits Record Low in New Poll

President Donald Trump’s approval rating in his second term has fallen to a new low, according to a Reuters/Ipsos survey.

The poll found his approval at 33 percent. That is down 14 points from the start of his second term, when it stood at 47 percent, and down four points from about a month ago, when it was measured at 37 percent.

Disapproval Widens

At the same time, Trump’s disapproval rating rose to 65 percent in the survey. It was up 24 points from the beginning of his second term, when it was recorded at 41 percent, and up four points from last month, when it was at 61 percent.

Midterms Put Pressure on Republicans

The new figures come as Republicans face a tough political run-up to the midterm elections. The poll is set against a backdrop of public dissatisfaction about the war in Iran, which is nearing its six-month mark, and heightened economic concerns reported in other recent polling.

A separate polling average compiled by Decision Desk HQ showed Trump’s approval rating at 38.7 percent on Tuesday morning, while his disapproval rating was at 57.9 percent.

Endorsements Claim Versus Election Losses

On Sunday, Trump promoted his endorsements as “stronger than ever”, despite losses for some candidates backed by him in recent primaries.

Posting on Truth Social, he said: “My Endorsements are stronger than ever — Not to mention the fact that good people are getting elected that never had the chance.” He added that 254 candidates he supported won their races this election season.

However, recent weeks have also seen defeats for candidates backed by Trump in congressional contests in Florida, Tennessee and Michigan.

Poll Timing and Method

The Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted from August 21 to 24 and included 1,215 respondents. The margin of error was 3 percentage points.
