Police have warned women to beware of romance scams after two recent victims lost more than Bt200,000 to a Nigerian who approached them via online networks using a false profile.

“Before you transfer any money to anyone, please call 1155 to check,” Technology Crime Suppression Division’s deputy director Pol MajGeneral Surachate Hakparn advised on Sunday.

According to him, Nzeribe Daniel Nwaungwo – a Nigerian who entered Thailand illegally – portrayed himself as a goodlooking American on Facebook and developed an online romantic relationships with women he met there before convincing them to transfer money to him.

“To one victim, he said he was a US soldier. To the other victim, he said he was a businessman. They are all lies,” Surachate said.

He said police had already arrested Nwaungwo after tracing him to Chiang Rai province.

Strangely enough, i visit the immigration department regularly as most of us do but i  never see any African men among the hundreds waiting at CW everyday,

About time for the Thai immigration authorities to star vetting seriously all African and other highly suspicious ' tourist and students' from entering the country, as not most, but all african are engaged in criminal activities in one way or another, the immigration authorities has the means and manpower to curtail and discourage most of those undesirables from entering the kingdom...

Dear Yum, can't wait any longer to receive your money and love you looong time.

With love your Nigerian allround scammer.??

Why does it seem that Nigerians proliferate this type of scam? And why do ladies fall for it? Are they really that desperate? If so, that's sad.....

No, no, no! Women advised to smarten up, and understand that you look at the goods in real life before you split the dough with them.

Foreigners advised to call 5555 before transferring money to Sick Buffalos they met online.

Obviously, hansum man met in a bar is not the same breed.

I Guess asking for money online is a retricted occupation only allowed to be performed by Thai women........

First start whith checking all Africans already in the country if they are legal. They are easy to find ?

(Even if they very likely will go to another country to continue their scam)

Why don't they do it? Laziness? Political correctness? (the last probably not in this country)

Hey there you with the sad face,  come up to my place,  and live it up.

I usually pose as a superannuated military officer,  and ask for money to pay off my watch collection.

Works a charm.

Bring some moolah and we can get mental as anything.

On the plus side maybe it will give my dad a break from the constant barrage of calls offering amazing deals to insure his 20 year old tele.

mmmm The boot is on the other foot. Sometimes this story hard to believe because mostly it is Thai ladies doing the scamming. Most Thai ladies have no money that is why they look for farang to scam. So this story a bit of surprise. We have all heard the stories Mum/Dad sick, Brother sick, Buffalo sick etc Hurry handsum man send money and i come to stay with you next week
