Ed visas for subjects other than Thai

Featured Replies

Hi,

Mostly, when people talk about ed visas they are talking about studying Thai, or at least pretending to study it for visa purposes. I'm guessing the actual requirement though is just that you are studying in Thailand on a program that requires you to put in so many hours per week.

Has anyone ever heard of a music school getting approval for ed visas? I am OK with tourist visas for the next two or three years, but after that my commitments back home will be more or less zero and I will have a lot more free time. Guitar is my hobby so if I could also make it a ticket to a long-term visa, that would be perfect. I am more than happy to put in a few hours a day of serious practise / study. Has anyone ever heard of a music school getting approval for ed visas? Even better, if I could find a good private teacher, does anyone know how realistic it would be to put together say a 3-year program and have it approved?

Probably an unusual question, but any help appreciated!

Basically any course of study can qualify for a non-ed visa and extensions of stay if the school is registered with the Ministry of Education.

For a one year course of study the minimum number of hours is 400 for most courses.

Why not talk to one of the big universities that have a music program?  Mahidol for example

Yeah I'll do that. I am in Chiang Mai currently and the CM University here does not seem to have a music program, so I thought maybe they have a different system for music ed... I see though that there is a music department at Mahidol, so I'll check it out.

There's also a 1 year self defense ed visa course in cm
