Cambodians on Sunday go to the poll the opposition parties have slammed as a “sham” and designed only to pave the way for Prime Minister Hun Seen to extend his 33-year rule.

The Human Rights Watch (HRW) has called the general election “not genuine” and the European Union and least three other countries, the United States, Japan and Australia, have announced they would not send observers to monitor the poll.

The National Election Committee (NEC) and the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) have reacted strongly to HRW’s statement which it described as politically motivated.

so far low trun out here in PP.

TO bad many are being forced to vote or....

how many will go to vote, yet leave the ballet blank JUST to get their finger inked..

Quote

“If they don’t vote, they are outside the circle,” said the deputy chief, who is also on a three-member village election committee. “They will face problems with getting general services and donations. They will be discriminated against.”
But voter turnout has emerged as a key test of the CPP’s legitimacy amid calls from the CNRP for a boycott of the election in a country where voting is voluntary. Low participation would give more ammunition for the United States and European Union to impose sanctions on Cambodia and weaken HE within the CPP, diplomats and analysts said.

Unlike some Thais love affair with military strong men, never met a Cambodian that liked Hun Sen.   No telling what might happen next.  Can't help but think that less than nimble minds on both sides of the border are playing with fire.

People here are confused. Hun Sen is Thaksin's eternal friend. They do everything to keep in power. Unfortunately Hun Sen also controls the army. He has mismanaged Cambodia for decades. Prayut saved Thailand. Get your facts straight.

Absolutely nothing. They've sat on their <deleted> for 33 years and allowed him to ride roughshod over them. Where do you think they are going to get the balls from now?

And the same here. The current fella is going to be PM for years and it will be mai pen rai from the natives. It really doesn't matter to most Thais; it only matters to him.

An 'eternal friendship" cemented with family and crony bonding. One of Thaksin's family wed a close crony of Hun Sen. And at one point Thaksin, a crook on the run, was appointed as an adviser to the Hun Sen government.

When a wannabee dictator gets control of the media, the military, the justice system and destroys all opposition then anything is possible.

funny;

when u vote, u dip ur finger in indelible ink that lasts a few days, to prove to ur commune chef u voted.

GF DID NOT vote today, but when went out for a meal she went to bathroom an came back with her ink stained finger ?

Streets are totally dead, only phone shops open and tourist out and about

News stations online are inaccessible for 2 days now and the speeds are crazy slow..

Has Hun Sen already asked for an invite to Trump's White House?

Or does he even need to ask. Just give Trump a week to invite him.

Need some US military hardware Hun Sen?

no doubt trump will be the first to congratulate him on his incredible victory

They force people to vote in order to validate the pre-determined election results. Honestly, how many people would turn up to vote if it were not compulsory?
