Can I leave the country while waiting for 1 year visa extension confirmation?

Featured Replies

This is the first time extending my one year visa for marriage. I thought they would give me the extension right away so I went just before the visa expires. But after submitting my documents they told me to come back in a month for the actual extension. They didn't mention anything about my visa expiration date so I assume that's fine, but can I leave the country during this time and still retain my visa?

The under consideration stamp they did allows you to stay in the country until your extension is approved.

If you want to leave the country you will have to get a re-entry permit that will be valid up to the report back date on the stamp.

You can get the re-entry permit from your local immigrantion office, or the airport when you exit. Best to get it from your local office so they know your going to be out of the country. They rarely contact applicants during the under consideration (formality) period, but some offices do a home visit, so it’s a good idea (not compulsory) to let them know when you’re away.

Perhaps you already know this. If you are in the habit of going in and out of the country, then you'll need to get the multi-entry version of your new long stay visa. Costs an extra 3600 baht if I remember correctly.

He is getting a extension of stay not a visa. No need to get the multiple re-entry permit until he has the one year extension stamp.

The fee is 3800 baht.

One of several reasons why it's a good idea to get your extension up to 30 (at some offices 45)  days before your current permission or extension ends. You give yourself time to deal with "surprises."

The new extension of your permission to stay begins when your current permission ends regardless of when you apply, so nothing is gained by waiting to the last minute and nothing is lost by doing it early.
