Thai ministers back Myanmar govt idea to insure Thailand-bound workers

Myanmar may offer voluntary short-term insurance to its nationals who will be coming to work in Thailand, Employment Department’s director-general Anurak Tossarat said on Wednesday.

He disclosed that the topic was raised during the meeting between him and his Myanmar counterpart last week. 

“My counterpart is worried about the fact that Myanmar workers do not have any protection during their travels to Thailand,” Anurak said. 

According to him, the discussion suggested Myanmar workers might take out insurance from their home country before they start their trip. 

Anurak said Labour Minister Pol General Adul Sangsingkeo, had expressed support for the idea.
