BANGKOK, 4th August 2018 (NNT) – The levels of particulate matter causing air pollution in all areas of Bangkok have decreased according to the Pollution Control Department.

Deputy Director-General of the Pollution Control Department Thalearngsak Petchsuwan, said on Friday that air quality in Bangkok has improved in recent months partly thanks to the measures taken to reduce particulate matter (PM2.5) including better traffic management and new traffic regulations. Particle pollution in Bangkok is mainly caused by private cars and vehicles in the transportation sector.

Thalearngsak says Thai officials are working with Japan on knowledge sharing, hoping to adapt Japan’s approach to preventing PM2.5 for use in Thailand. The department is also developing a two-year plan to tackle air pollution.

Particulate matter is a complex mixture of extremely small particles and liquid droplets that get into the air. Particles less than or equal to 10 micrometers in diameter are so small that they can get into the lungs of residents, potentially causing serious health problems.

What he really means is that the rainy season is clearing up the areas around Bangkok that are normally polluted because of agricultural burning. Even now, the air quality in Nakhom Sawan, for example, is moderate and fires can be seen in a lit of spots. After the monsoon, the big smog will return.

What a complete lie. Air quality always improves thanks to the southwest monsoon. There was nothing to do with measures taken to reduce air pollution. The traffic is still as bad as ever. As soon as the monsoon ends the air quality will get worse again.

That should fix the problem. There is a plan for everything in Thailand along with innumerable well paid committees to mull such plans and eventually come out with some totally impractical solution.

T-land where saving face comes before saving lives...

What a lie. It comes from the seasonal weather change and nothing else.
What please has improved? Nothing...

And what japanese methods?
That is just an excuse for some officials to make a leisure trip to Japan.

How about far less cars in Bangkok?
The roads are simply not designed for this huge masses.

A Thai official speaks without knowledge. Not surprised.

The BKK to Issan exodus for the recent Big Buddha holiday, may have helped nudge the needle a bit as well.  ?
