They railroad the rich families so they pay for the exit door. IT'S a huge rort. A massive waste of the countries money and a useless outcome. They should be doing apprenticeships a trade

Is Thailand the only country that has more generals than conscripts?

I heard a major supermarket were considering a buy-two-get-one-free offer.

It's laughable

What does the military do........?

Protect the borders against the neighbours?

Protect the nation from distant foes?

Protect the elite from the hoi polloi?

Given Thailand military history i think they one a battle once against the Burmese, gave the French all their gold after they sent a couple of gun boats up the Chao praya then erected a victory monument, and capitulated to the Japanese after they dropped a couple of bombs on Bangkok, one wonders why they bother to have an army at all.

Yes! Military is only needed in the country for the Generals who what the regular coups!

A Thai friend recently went to the annual registration/ notification at an Army office, he doesn’t want to go into the army and may have to go through the coloured ball farce, however he was asked if he could or wanted to “pay money “ to prevent any possibility of having to be conscripted! This is the Thai method of dealing with everything “

Well that's good - as I expected, money solves the problem. That's why this country is so much better than any western country, where everyone is forced against their will do as the government decides with no option of buying your way out (well, unless you are a member of the elite).

I think every country should have a conscript system.  It allows different groups in society to learn about their country's military services. It promotes more change toward improvement as they either stay with the military or leave and improve it from civilian life.

Well sure as hell something has gone wrong with that philosophy of yours in Thailand.  Improve life from a civilian background ? have you actually spent anytime in Thailand let alone living here for decades.  If you had or do then you will know for sure zero has been improved to the benefit of the average Thai for decades now and if you do live here then you must be delusional and should seek medical help

Protect the people from educational nightmares and they protect them from getting a well-paid job that would only create jealousy.

Protect foreigners from educated people.

Protect locals to run their islands in a way they want to.

Protect recreational and harder substances from being sold by Aliens.

Protect the protected protectors to make sure that protection is protected.

Out dated,  old fashion and no use whatso ever to the Generals who have to utilize conscripts and what's more interferes with their education at Uni, if where posted they don't have the correct courses at Uni.

The Generals and others are not interested in people missing their uni education.  After all, the entire feudal system relies upon an uneducated and ill-informed populace for its own survival so hence getting 700000 male conscripts of the education merri-go-round to undertake menial degrading tasks and indoctrinated into being subservient to their military masters is all part of the the continuing grand plan unfortunately. It would be perfect if even half of those did have the opportunity of gaining higher education,   it just might be good for Thailand's future but of course that would mean a step -change from the current system.

Yes, its very difficult to stage a coup and kick out a democratically elected Government without a bunch of soldiers isn't it?

Agreed, although a professional, well trained army would be less inclined to commit the crime of "Treason"! It follows that a professional well trained military must be also trained in "ethics" "honesty" and the "rule of law"?

Next question!
