Suthep Thaugsuban sheds tears June 3 at a Power of Thai People’s Nation Party assembly.

BANGKOK — The head of the newly formed pro-junta party of Suthep Thaugsuban said it would back junta leader Prayuth Chan-ocha as prime minister after the next election – if he signs on as a list candidate.

Action Coalition for Thailand leader Chatumongol Sonakul said Wednesday the party would have a hard time explaining why the public should support Prayuth as the next prime minister if he’s not among its pool of candidates. He wouldn’t say whether the party would ask Prayuth to join its roster of list candidates.

Great idea.

It would hopefully show that he was, decisively........not wanted.

His subsequent attempted coup would be strongly resisted and the curse might at last be lifted.

ACT is reeling from lack of support and is enticing Prayut to list as member/candidate to attract support for his party. Unlikely that he will get Prayut for his party. He know that Suthep is a liability and ACT is doomed before it even started.

Prayut should.......just run along now!!

Prayuth cannot keep his temper in check, and will have a total melt down on stage if challenged. The gutless wander wants to hide until the verbal swashbuckling is over.   Sadly, the virtue-less seem to have an easy time in Thailand.  He could become the back door PM and that won't bother him at all.  All he wants is power.

I would rather he went back to being a general , a job to which he is surely more suitable.

Isn't that premature?

Doesn't Prayut have to win a primary election within the party to be a list candidate?

While I'm sure he'll have no opposition within the Action Coalition for Thailand party, he must by law passed by Prayut's appointed NLA go through the primary party election process. But primary elections as mandated by new laws cannot yet be held because of the NLA's Political Act currently in effect.

Both Democrats and PTP parties have asked Prayut to suspend the primary party elections because they will impact the time available for party campaigning prior to the election date presumably in February 2019. Thus far, Prayut has not done so though it is entirely within his absolute power to suspend laws. Maybe for himself he will now suspend the primary party elections.

I think what Suthep meant that Prayut be listed as party candidate as PM. Primary election meant for participating candidates for the election. Prayut can’t be an election candidate as the registration time frame had expired and he need to resign from his current position.

As candidate PM, ACT will have to win 25 seats and get enough parties to gain mandate in Parliament to elect him as PM.

However I doubt Prayut will join ACT but would rather join Palang Patcharat as they seem to have the resources, finances and momentum. He said he will made that decision in September. Let’s see.
