Thai students win 10 medals at Robot Challenge 2018

 

 

BANGKOK, 14th August 2018 (NNT) – Thai students have been awarded three gold and two silver medals at China’s Robot Challenge 2018, returning home to a hero’s welcome. 

Teachers, parents and fellow students staged a welcome back ceremony at Suvarnabhumi Airport for Thai students dispatched by the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) to take part in Robot Challenge 2018 in Beijing, China. The team won medals in 10 categories and showcased Thailand’s skills in science and technology. 

 

OBEC Director for Special Programs Thanyanan Kaeokerd explained that this year was Thailand’s first opportunity to attend the Robot Challenge and that all participants were well prepared before being sent to compete, so that they would be prime examples of Thailand’s international science and technology standards. 

Lalita Deelert from Potisarnpittayakorn School Bangkok remarked that the competition provided her with two opportunities; the first was to practice her Mandarin communication skills while the second was to engage in the Line Follower Junior challenge. She said that while she received a silver medal, she intends to use her experiences to develop further. 

Sittichoke Nakprasert from Samakkhi Witthayakhom School said he was proud to have taken part in the Remote Air Race and to win gold. He said he was inspired by the challenge to develop his drone skills and to seek to benefit society through drone technology. 

Students from eight Thai schools competed in 10 categories at the games. Pathumrajwongsa School won gold in the Puck Collect Senior category, Samakkhi Witthayakhom School won gold in the Remote Air Race and Amnat Charoen School took the top prize in the Line Follower Senior category. 

Kanchanaphisek Witthayalai School took silver in the Line Follower Enhanced Adult category as did Potisarnpittayakorn School in the Line Follower Junior division. 

Rong Kam School received First Prize in the Puck Collect Adult competition alongside Kanchanphisek Witthayalai School in the Line Follower Senior category and Jakkarakamkanathorn School in the Lego Line Follower Senior. Wat Khao Wang School took first prize in the Free Style Senior contest, while Sattha Samut School won the category’s Second Prize. 

A total 2,288 students from 223 institutions representing 30 countries competed in the games staged in Beijing.
