BANGKOK, 16th August 2018 (NNT) -- The government is determined to continue its efforts to settle Thailand’s problems with illegal fishing and human trafficking.

Deputy Prime Minister Gen. Prawit Wongsuwon on Wednesday chaired a meeting of the committee tasked to manage the reform of public and government administration.

The meeting heard an update on progress in the operations to tackle illegal fishing activities and human trafficking, which have been focused on hearing people’s problems through the National Fisheries Association of Thailand.

Regarding efforts to solve human trafficking problems, the meeting heard the order to all involved to keep implementing all measures and to pay attention to details in the latest Trafficking in Persons Report and come up with effective action plans, while putting an emphasis on assistance and law enforcement as well as public education.

In addition, the meeting resolved to set up a new committee responsible for integrated management of electronic waste and plastic waste brought in from overseas — a decision that was made in accordance with the policy of Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha to solve the problem of toxic waste.

Gen. Prawit also urged the Royal Thai Police and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to step up efforts to solve traffic congestion in the city, particularly in areas where electric train line construction is underway while suggesting the setting up of a central committee to speedily solve problems faced by retailers at the Chatuchak weekend market.

In most countries there would be no need to continually discuss efforts to control two vile things that are illegal, immoral and inhumane. I find it telling that in Thailand people need reminders all the time to do the good and honest thing.

looks like someone is still delivering envelopes, thought this was supposed to be sorted, obviously it is just being covered over. They have been at this for around 2 years now, new regulations were brought in so what has happened and why arent they being adhered to/pushed by the authorities

The only effective plan thus far has been by the fishing-vessel owners who are "enraged" that the government plans to ratify a convention that will require significantly better conditions for workers.

In response the permanent secretary for Labor Ministry assured owners that there is no plan to ratify the C188 convention anytime soon. http://www.nationmultimedia.com/detail/national/30352008

Meanwhile Prayut seems to be considering a buyout of any fishing owner's vessel where physical compliance with C188 Convention would be burdensome.

Score fishing owners 2; Prayut 0.

Well don't rush into it now will you.

Coincidently I asked in another post what ever happened to the top cop who got too close the human traffickers and promptly fled to Australia, any update on him?
