Asking for a friend, basically they submitted the wrong English cert for the visa, as far as I understand it my friend got confused and believed they could reuse the A1 for the FLR, the visa was refused and they’ve lost all of the visa fee, they promptly got the right cert and resubmitted it via post and got the FLR, does anyone have any experience of this and possibly trying to get a refund of the original fee, they tried to just add the new cert to the visa pack but they were told as a decision has been made etc you have to reapply with a whole new application, he was trying to make the point of it wasn’t so much a refusal because of non legibility but a clerical error!!!

Any chance anyone think of a refund??

I don't think your friend will get a refund on this I'm afraid. Appreciate, its an easy mistake to make. Always, worthwhile keeping an eye in this forum as changes to requirements do happen from time to time.

They made the change last year. Shame that UKVI didn’t request the newer cert and give them time to provide it.

If you don't ask for a refund, you certainly won’t get one.

Certainly ECO’s are allowed to request missing or incomplete documentation when considering a visa application, I would have thought the same would have applied to UK based staff when considering leave to remain.
I would certainly challenge their handling of the application.
