BANGKOK, 21 August 2018 (NNT) – July's Confidence Index released by the Thai Chamber of Commerce has improved thanks to the improved image of tourism sector.

Thai Chamber of Commerce Chairman Kalin Sarasin has saidthe TCC's Confidence Index in July has improved to 48.6 scores from 48.4 in a previous month, due to positive factors involving the successful rescue operation for Wild Boar soccer players from Tham Luang cave in Chiang Rai, while the government has retained the Value Added Tax (VAT) at 7% for another year.

However, the Confidence Index was affected by a boat accident in Phuket, higher oil prices, low agricultural product prices, and natural disasters such as flooding in the northeastern region.

The TCC's Confidence Index is created from surveys made with the private sector and regional businesspersons to reflect the actual business and economic performance. Information from this survey is forwarded to the government to aid with its strategic planning.

The current scores by each region are still below 50, except for the eastern region which reached beyond 50 points due to increased tourism activities during public holidays, government's spendings in the EEC project, and expanding service sector. The scores are expected to improve in all regions in the latter half of this year.

The TCC has projected the score for July 2019 will be at 51.3, reflecting the country's better economic performance next year. The county's economy will however still be subjected to possible negative factors.

The TCC also suggests the private sector solve persisting problems such as the lowered prices of products due to oversupplying, and the negative effects in tourism sector following the Phuket boat accident.

Surveyor: "Hey Somchai! You confident?

Somchai: Yup.

Surveyor: Wah! Confidence is up!"

Every other tourism story I have read recently notes that 600,000 Chinese have cancelled their Thai holiday.

But, the above is MUCH more credible...

Of course it´s more credible! The believed false facts that cancelletions are up to 600,000 chinese tourists, is just a well known hoax. You know, like the three headed snake.

So the tourism minister is doing his job.  Let's not let a few drownings spoil the show.

Time for the old chestnut, story of the saintly cabbie returning a million to careless tourist, must be a few days since we had one of them.

Yes, a couple of days now. Yesterday's story only was about a thieving taxi driver:

All farang inhabitants of Pattaya with their extended families should line the streets armed with placards reading 'We Want Our Roads Back'.  There should be much shaking of fists and Martial Music.  I suggest on roads leading to Nong Nooch Gardens and the Floating Market.

Hmm, you might have more luck with shaking of fists and martial arts.

However, the cave rescue was enough to bring up the confidence level, and that is why Chinese tourists have not cancelled any trips, and the world continues to sing the praises of this administration. Nothing will deter tourists from coming here, as Thailand is truly the center of the universe, and there is no other nation on earth that is more superior, better when it comes to protecting it's tourists, and more capable of providing a perfect vacation. All business people love this administration, as there are countless genius level ministers, and the level of creativity and problem solving is something the Thai people have never witnessed previously. No effort has been spared to provide the people with top talent, and the complete avoidance of nepotism, cronyism, and corruption is inspiring great confidence from the masses. There is now a meritocracy in place, and the changes and improvements are astonishing. All because of the genius at the top.

And as the crooked whore lawyer Guiliani says, truth is not truth. Calling the Phuket incident a boat accident, is the epitome of an understatement. It was a tragedy of epic proportions, that could have easily been prevented.

What the PheuThai is a 'confidence index'?

My confidence is at 100% that Thai announcements are just bs.they have to bullshit or lose face and their lucrative jobs.

With the only caveat being Phuket/Chinese boat tours !

This is all a circus, run by clowns.

Your point is a good one, after all you can make a survey say whatever you want it to say based on who you survey. The TCC clearly has an interest on what their survey indicates and may even receive outside help in what the results should indicate.

The above quote is the headline.

The quote below is the final clause.
