Woman dies after being hit by crashing song-taew in front of her Bangkok home

By The Nation

A 69-year-old woman was hit and killed by a song taew minibus in front of her house in Bangkok’s Huai Khwang district on Monday morning.

Police said the accident occurred at 7.40am on Phet-uthai Road.

The deceased was identified as Kimbuay Sae-hor, who owned the house.

She was hit by a six-wheeled truck, which had been modified to operate as a minibus for the 1071-16 route.

The bus was driven by Prasert Paewking, 61, who told police that his vehicle had developed a malfunctioning brake system, so he had decided to bring it to a stop it by crashing it into the front fence of the house.

Prasert said he had not, however, seen Kimbuay coming out to empty her garbage bin when he made the manoeuvre.

I am now wondering if brakes come as an optional extra , so many drivers put their foot where the pedal is to find none . I avoid using buses of any shape , colour or size , if I had to I would get the TW to ask " Oi 'scuse me Somchai , does your bus have brakes ? "

Thailand needs the equivalent of Ralph Nader to investigate  these numerous convenient brake failures

Road carnage, thailands biggest Lottery claims another innocent victim...''The odds are getting better every year'' ,all you have to do is walk out of your house and your in the game...absolutely disgraceful this is.

I am wondering what happened to split systems designed to help avoid the total loss of brakes?

There are few failures that can result in a total brake failure.

It would be interesting to know what the service records show, it is time they mandated written service records for examination in cases like this.

Its her own fault because her fence was not strong enough to stop a six wheel truck driven by a Muppet

Brakes in Thailand fail so often...it's a wonder vehicle manufacturers can stay in business. :whistling:
