JS123
Maybe I'm bad at searching, but I could not find any other thread that could answer my question. If I'm working for a company that is registered in bangkok, can I then work for them from my home in hua hin? I understand that I need to said province to the work permit, but do the company need to be operating in the province that I want to add to the work permit? ubonjoe
The most recent change to the rules is supposed to state you can work anywhere but I have not seen anything official yet. Under the current rules it is possible to add a 2nd workplace to the work permit. Not sure a house would be accepted.
ernstsm86
Hello Ubonjoe, I am about to move from a teaching job in Mahasarakham to a teaching position in Khon Kaen. According to the resignation acceptance letter from my old workplace, my last day of work in Mahasarakham is on the 1st, and the contract with my new employee in Khon Kaen (KK) starts on the same day. I hold a non-o extension of stay based on marriage with a Thai. My employer in KK has informed me that I need to cancel my old work permit (WP) on the 1st May and get the new WP from the Labour Office (LO) in KK on the same day, so I can go to the immigration within the same day to get an extension based on my new contract. However, I just learned that the LO in Khon Kaen would not be able to issue a new WP within one day. They need 2-4 days for the process since it involves issuing a new WP. Importantly, they cannot begin the process before I have cancelled the work permit at the LO in Mahasarakham. Hence, I will end up overstaying my extension of stay for a few days while the LO processes my work permit. Luckily, the Immigration in Khon Kaen has confirmed that no one will be charged for overstaying until 31st July because of the travel restrictions caused by the Covit-19 pandemic. So, my question is: How can it be, that the process of the WP in Khon Kaen cannot be started before 1st May when I have all the necessary documents except for the letter of cancellation from the LO in Mahasarakham? Yours or anyone's insight on this would be beneficial to me. Thank you.

Your extension is not tied to having a work permit or working so you have nothing to worry about. The only thing you will need to do is change your address to Khon Kaen it you will be living there. Only if you had a extension based upon teaching would you need to maintain the work permit.

Sorry, correction needed: My non-o was obtained based on marriage with Thai national and therefore I still hold a non-o. However, for a few years now, I have extended my visa based on the contract with my employer. The new visa extension in KK will likewise be based on the contract with my employer there. Hence, I believe I need a work permit before I can get the next extension. My address will be changed to KK. Thank you very much for answering so quickly.
