February 8, 200719 yr Real remain world's richest club Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool are among the world's ten richest clubs but remain behind leaders Real Madrid. The Red Devils, who topped the rich list every year until the 2004 / 05 season, have fallen from second to fourth place, behind Juventus, in the wake of their failure to qualify for the lucrative knockout stages of the Champions League last season. Real Madrid, who replaced United as the world's richest club, have held on to top spot with a total income of around £195 million thanks to corporate sponsors as well as the global appeal of the likes of David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldo. The men from the Bernabeu's closest challengers in Deloitte's Football Money League report are Barcelona, who have stormed up to the runners-up spot after their revenue grew by 25 per cent as they were crowned champions of Europe with victory over Arsenal in Paris last May. Barca are around £22 million behind their Spanish rivals with Deloitte Sports Business Group partner Dan Jones saying: "Barcelona has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent seasons, doubling their revenue since 2002 / 03. "The two clubs (Real and Barca) have had contrasting strategies, with Real focusing on driving commercial revenue from recruiting its Galactico players and Barcelona having a more balanced revenue profile." AC Milan are fifth, one place ahead of Premiership champions Chelsea, while Arsenal are ninth, one spot ahead of Liverpool, who are set to move up the table after US tycoons George Gillett and Tom Hicks had their takeover bid accepted by the Anfield board. England's top clubs are set to see their earnings soar when the new Premiership TV contract begins next season. Jones added: "It is the rising value of broadcast rights to top-tier domestic leagues that has underpinned overall revenue growth. "The Premier League's recently concluded broadcasting deals may see English teams contribute half of the top 20 clubs in 2007 / 08." The World's richest clubs: 1 Real Madrid 2 Barcelona 3 Juventus 4 Manchester United 5 AC Milan 6 Chelsea 7 Inter Milan 8 Bayern Munich 9 Arsenal 10 Liverpool 11 Olympique Lyon 12 AS Roma 13 Newcastle United 14 Schalke 04 15 Tottenham Hotspur 16 Hamburg SV 17 Manchester City 18 Rangers 19 West Ham United 20 Benfica
