Land of Smiles named “Best Cultural and Heritage Holiday Destination”

BANGKOK, 22nd September 2018 (NNT) – Thailand has been voted No.1 "Star Cultural and Heritage Holiday Destination” worldwide by the travel agent readership of the UK trade magazine Travel Bulletin.

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Cha-o-cha referred yesterday to the Travel Bulletin Star Awards 2018, which honored Thailand as the best cultural and heritage holiday destination.

According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), "Amazing Thailand” became a finalist in the "Star Online Training Course” category. The Star Online Training Course award for Amazing Thailand holds extra significance, as it represents the first time an Asian destination has made it into the winners’ line up for this particular category.

This year’s 22nd edition of the Travel Bulletin Star Awards was the biggest yet, celebrating destinations, tourism boards, hoteliers, cruise lines, airlines, and other sectors of the global travel industry. The ceremony to announce the awards took place in London on 10th September.

Gen Prayut said that over the past decade, Thailand’s tourism income has increased by almost 10 percent on average. It has continued to rise in particular, since the easing of political conflict in the country.

In 2014, Thailand earned 1.14 trillion baht from tourism revenue, which is expected to reach two trillion baht by the end of 2018. Last year, international tourist arrivals rose to almost 36 million, placing Thailand among the top ten fastest growing travel destinations.

That must have cost a lot of money.

There must be almost as much Kymer heritage in Thailand as there is in Cambodia

Has anyone ever visited a cathedral (I am an atheist by the way). Has anyone ever visited a wat? Noticed the difference?

And I will not even mention Rubens, Van Gogh, Rembrandt - since there is nothing to compaire them to in Thailand.

Mind you, I do like Thailand; cheap sex, cheap food, cheap hotels, no winter season. But that does not really count as "cultural heritage". Well, I guess you could count cheap sex as cultural heritage.

Don't want to sound negative but does that include the cultural and heritage areas of Bangkok such as Sukhumvit Soi's 3 - 6+ and the slums of Klong Toey. Or Pattaya Soi's 2 to 6 and Boyztown, Walking Street and Beach Road after 3am.

Thailand culture exists everywhere and even the dirty, filthy crapping pigeons are there to welcome the visitors they bring. Not to mention the touts and thieves and con artists.

Congratulations Thailand!

These reports are about as bogus as they come.

Anyone thats been hanging around TVF for a few years has seen countless Skytrax, Conde surveys telling you, best beach, best airline, best culture, best food(well that might be true) best almost anything you care to mention.

If you live there, you know the reality!

Hahaha...

tell that to my Chinese friend who just paid 6000 rmb to a monk for him to say their daughter will be married within a year. Culture and religion are a joke in Thailand..  and land of smiles can only see when paying money. I love Thailand..  but some of the things i see really are a joke in themselves.  Just like this article
