If PM Prayut can extend his stay - why not take pity on the minivans?

Thai Rath's columnist "Mae Look Jan" turned his attention to the plight of Bangkokians - and minivan drivers - after orders that will see 1,800 vans taken off the capitals streets at the end of the month.

 

The columnist said that if Prayut Chan-ocha, the head of the ruling junta could "extend his stay by another 4 years after serving five" why couldn't the vans get a two year stay of execution. 

 

The vans are ten years old and represent 40% of the service in Bangkok. From the end of the month they need to be taken out of service.

 

This said the columnist would mean severe problems for the 100,000 members of the public who use their service every morning and evening rush hours. 

 

"Yes", he said, "We get the fact that it is being done because of safety concerns. We understand why Article 44 was used to address the problems associated with the vans.

 

"But this desire for order all at once this will cause the travelling public to be disadvantaged never mind those who own the vans".

 

The columnist suggested that the vans be allowed to continue for another two years as Bangkok faces one traffic crisis after another at the moment. 

 

They said that the withdrawal of the vans would be most keenly felt in the Victory Monument area where 819 vehicles would be off the road from October 1st. Minburi with 500 and Chatujak with 150 would also be badly hit. 

 

But the issue would also affect many passengers left with long delays or without even a viable route home in areas such as Pin Klao, Ekamai, Bangkapi, Bang Na, Future Park, Lat Prao and Suvarnaphumi.

Agree, thats why i also recommend to postpone all traffic rules and regulations for at least 20 years and then introduce a speed limit at 200km/h which is pushed down over a period of 10 years to 100km/h. Cause it would be sad if people have to follow traffic rules all of a sudden, right?

 

And who cares about the 20.000 people dying every year on the roads...

They don't have a voice anymore, so F them.

Maybe if people used the trains a bit more there would be no traffic problems. these people were told 12 months ago to update to the 20 seat buses why have they not done so, typical Thais wait till the last minute then go running to Pinocchio and section 44 for help, Just a thought what happens if Pinocchio doesn't become the next P.M.

If Prayut can consider purchasing 10,000 fishing vessels because their owners refuse to make them compliant with Convention C188 standards, why can't he consider purchasing the 1,800 minivans?

Prayut seems to take pity when there are business threats against his regime.

If he the PM can climb down on many many deaths of people and give in to allow riding on the rear cargo bed of pick ups on the pretence of hardship of the people and allows them to get killed then he will probable cave on this. Now its getting nearer time to vote
