Disney redraws first black princess after anti-racism campaigners claim her skin is 'too white'

Before and after - Disney has made her skin darker

Animators have been forced to re-draw Disney's first black princess after anti-racism campaigners claimed she had been 'whitewashed' with lighter skin and straighter hair for her latest role.

Princess Tiana was the first black Disney princess, created for the film 'The Princess and The Frog' in 2009.

She has been re-animated for the new film 'Wreck It Ralph 2', in which all the princesses have a sleepover.

When the trailer was released in May, fans noticed she looked considerably different - her skin was lighter and her corkscrew curls had been tamed to gentle waves.

Haha, mine is also a machine cut with number 0.

The Thai in front of me had a complete hair cut + facial shave and paid 100.

I told the barber he was a racist and would never see the front of me again, but he couldn't stop laughing.

Since he knew I live around the corner, do they really not realise that he miss out on at least 12 haircuts a year?

Let me get this straight, the anti racism complainers are up in arms because somebody, of obvious african american descent, is not black enough?

Isn't that prejudice personified?

No, but I  expect you got up today singing it's a wonderful day for pie.

Get beyond your attempt to justify a crude dismissal of the concern and consider the big picture.

The character was promoted as a "black" princess to target the   brown/black demographic. What we have here is the depiction of a non imposing toned down black person, aka it won't threaten middle aged white people.  If the intent was just to have someone with a  good tan and coiffed hair, then the character should have been promoted as such.

What a boring cartoon.  Thank you, but I don't even see the relevance.  Perhaps you think I am a racist middle aged white bloke; two out of three is not bad, well done!

My comment, without your interpretation, was intended to question the irony of a situation in terms of a cartoon not considered to be black enough.  Surely the logical step is the highly exaggerated caricature of a black person in the same way that white stereotypical caricatures are used.  This would also be considered wrong.

I am reasonably aware of the big picture based on over 30 years living and working in several foreign countries where I have, on occasion, been the subject of racial bias.  I do not condone or support any racial bias even though your misinterpretation of my comments would seem to suggest it.

Probably if Disney had done her blacker anti-racism would have attacked that because not all blacks are that black and it is stereotyping and offensive to make her so black. either way there would have been racist complaints.

Complain complain complain does nothing to end racism just personifies it.

In the original movie, a white guy, clearly on steriods, actually won a medal. No one even raised an eyebrow, or asked for an investigation. That's the real racism here.

I just bought a professional panasonic battery tondeuse and let my wife do it...she's not a barber but who cares? It's still much better and faster than a thai barber.

But that professional tondeuse gets hot in thailand, very hot at the ultrasonic blades which hurts my skin. So better not buy a Panasonic.

I think the faction, Light to Medium Black Lives Matter, will be having riots over this.

It does seem odd that the anti racists are insisting on and judging racial purity; that always ends well!

I always thought the goal of society was to be color blind- meaning not to see the other person's color or comment on it or even speak of it- because it doesn't matter in a society that accepts people for who and what they are.

Life just gets funnier each day.
