TM30 and domestic travel around Thailand

Featured Replies

I am up to date on my TM28 and TM30 reports at my home immigration office where I do my annual extension. Two questions please:

1. If I travel on holiday within Thailand and stay at large hotels that ask for my passport copy will I then have to resubmit a TM28 and TM30 on my return home before going to the home IO for any other reason or extending my stay?

2. If I also stay at friends homes or small hotels in other provinces on holiday that may not report my stay to immigration, will I then be at risk of fine when returning home and making a new TM28 and TM30 report since there will be gap days when there was no reports on my location besides stays at large hotels when my passport was copied?

It seems to me the only way to avoid the risk of TM28 and TM30 non compliance fine back at the home IO is to only stay at cheap hotels where they don't ask for ID when travelling around Thailand.

I share your concerns and will be looking at any answers. I often go visit my son for 3 or 4 days, a 200kms journey but still in C Mai province. I assume theoretically I am breaking the rules by not reporting my stay away from home. Seems like staying home (can we call it home in Thailand?) is the answer.

1. No in my opinion. But it can depends upon how pedant your local office is. They would have to go into a special database to check to see if you had stayed in hotels since the reports do not show up on the records the can see when they enter your info. The majority of offices do not bother checking for the reports.

2. No since immigration would have no way of knowing where you had stayed. Hotels only report your arrival.

Thanks UbonJoe. I will report back the findings later - next year now for another extension, and follow your ever helpful guidance. I'm just holding onto the existing TM stubs since arrival in Thailand until I do another extension then.
