An elderly Chon Buri couple expecting to find a cat noisily rummaging above their ceiling on Sunday night were instead astonished to find a burglar staring back at them from the dark.

Lottery vendor Somsak Ngamsombat, 63, and wife Pimporn, 70, were unharmed in the encounter at the top of a ladder.

Neighbours responded to their cries for help and called police, but the would-be thief leapt through the ceiling accessway and grabbed Somsak’s shirt as he fled.

The would-be thief left behind his own shirt in the ceiling and police collected that as evidence.

Could of been one of those rare fishing cats. ... hoping to bag a big catch

Maybe he was what we would call a shirt lifter in the UK?
