Thailand can and does get old but it's still probably better than wherever you came from in the US.  Sounds like you (OP) need to find a new spot.  It may not be in SE Asia either.

You ever try Panama, or something like that?  If you find the change in venue is pretty awesome, no doubt there will be some old hands in the bar there saying the place sucks now, pining for "good old days".  It happens.

Jeez more silicon there than in a Plumbers supplies shop.

No there are also those that have no budget so that's 3.

But eventually, they will....making them #2.  Sailors don't have a budget...for three hours every month....And then they rely on loans from the people who had the misfortune of witnessing their stupidity for the rest of the month..credit card debt?  What's that?

Great, since no one here has mentioned one decent happy hour, please enlighten us.  And the warm beers at the Train Market didn't really hit the spot, in the blazing heat.  Seems like 82 years of refrigeration in LOS and they would know how to use it.

Agree on that ,rarely do i get an Aussie cold beer,in our local town up country one lady turns the beer fridge off at night to save electric,i tried to explain it costs more as when she switches it back on the thing has to flog it's guts out to get back to a decent temp, result barely cold beer which makes me want to vomit,no longer go there. At home always put beer in freezer to get it ice cold. Usually drink cider when i go there as not available where i live.

Since it is Sunday, I'll say A-men. It also causes a lot of extra wear and tear on the overheated compressor, and pretty soon, the thing won't even cool to 3c.  The electric companies even warn about keeping refrigerators in hot rooms...

Yes but if you are very rich or very poor you would not have a budget,as for Sailor's i would not know, credit card debt, well i don't have that either,i do owe my builder a retainer for my house, but as he seems incapable of fixing some leaks in my roof,he can 'go whistle for it'

Often roofing problems are caused by condensation, and are not actually leaking..just dripping sweat.  Thais understand this about as much as they (mis)understand refrigeration.

Only happens when raining,English chap owns company, meant to be this miracle dry roof system,it is a complicated roof i grant you but last time they came they cemented a ridge cap down the other end,no where near the leaks, not bad leaks but damp patches evident i am hoping at some stage they can fix it 3 goes already same result.

The Kiwi Bar on Soi 8 has a decent HH where you can get pints for 99 Baht or small bottles for 75.

Chequers on Soi 8 has decent food and 100 Baht beers.

There's loads of decent places to go.

It all depends on what you want.

How much you want to drink, do you want any extra's etc.

Not a bad suggestion, but last time I went by KB, there were 20 guys and zero chicks..the 800 THB service centers were more tempting..but gave that SOI a miss this time..but yes, the place has been well respected over the years.

Hopefully, it is vented.  Non vented roofs are a disaster.

My lawyer and I bought a ten year old house in CM in 2006..I got him down from 1.1 to 915k, partially, because of the crumbling mortar on the hip ridges... didn't leak a drop, though.

Clay tiles have some nuances, too.  Oh, and any kind of tree limb hanging over the house or shrubs too close to the house can create huge problems...water running of a limb can be more like a fire hose than a rain storm.

Rename the thread to "Bangkok is no longer cheap" - hardly surprising given the rents being charged - progress ????

As many other countries in this railroad mess are discovering, there is a heavy price to be paid for making your bed with the Chinese.

As the ruling "elite" in this country are all Chinese - not a difficult bed to make ????

"The rich get richer and the poor get poorer" is an aphorism due to Percy Bysshe Shelley. In A Defence of Poetry Shelley remarked that the promoters of utility had exemplified the saying, “To him that hath, more shall be given; and from him that hath not, the little that he hath shall be taken away.

Sailors can be fun to hang out and party with.  I yousta be wun, then I moved to paradise lost and now I don't hab no fun know more.

I mean seriously!  Beers have doubled in price since the 1980s.   Matterafact, seems like the cost of everything has gone up since then, and things have changed.  For example, I found out recently that some of the monks around here are in it for the money.  Turns out my Embassy loves me about as much as that one chick on Soi 4 said she did.   Mamasan finally told me the other night, after all these years and all the people I told back home, that the meatballs in my Mama noodles aren't really monkey testicles after all.

Just can't wrap my head around this place anymore.  It's so fake and dirty, and I'm frickin' miserable.  I'm takin' my money and moving to Cambodia!  ????

There is a good read on Drummond about the boiler room outfits moving to Cambodia, as the demands for "envelopes" are too great here.  I hope the victims have an easier time finding them.

I thought I was bad but dude, everything's a cynical, George Carlin downer with you.   You're bumming me out to the point I need to avoid balconies, and the high floor railings at Swampy.

Yes.  It's like touching an open flame.  I know it's no good for me but I can't help rolling around in the misery.

Tell us the last funny story or joke you can remember.  Help a brother out, ok?

Several years ago in Chiang Mai, the bar scene was booming. In those bars a group of us lads used to meet once a week. We would drink vodka and limes, beers, watch the pretty girls prancing about on a stage, and pretty girls would sit next to us, we would buy them drinks and some great laughs to be had. We were just out for good times and socialising. There were girls there that could be barfined and some that would not go out with customers, only there as hostesses. Most of us only went for the drinks and social and the bar type atmosphere as did many other of my friends at the time. That was it basically. After a few hours and several drinks into the evening, most of us were too drunk to go with girls anyway. But it was fun, not over expensive and many of those bars stayed open to the very late hours.

So this wasn`t about socialising with prostitutes, even if many of the girls were prostitutes. If not sure of my meaning, would you like me to draw you a diagram?

That social scene has long gone .

The decline began a few years ago  , about the time of the licensing law enforcements.

All the girls either got married to a customer or found other jobs .

Yes, they were enjoyable times back then , now the bars just have the girls that no one wanted to marry and couldnt find other jobs and a few older guys sadly drinking beers on their own

If you lost a bundle from the boilers; you should be helping us find some good places to party.

Yes, but the bars I mentioned aren't "girlie" bars.

You're going to pay more for drinks when they have bar girls working there.

They don't pay themselves.

Not too bad, only about $80,000 to a financial advisor dot.th website run by a farang from Europe who won't answer my calls now.  And then the Russians tricked me into voting for Trump instead of Hillary Clinton - although I kinda liked that other candidate.... what was his name again?  Jerry Seinfeld?

So yeah, it's been a rough couple years for me.  Could use some cheering up from a guy like you who ain't got it as bad as I do.

In Chiang Mai, a bunch of expats gave their money to the president of the Expat Club..who did a runner, when all was lost.  Personally, I graduated from Business School at Money Magazine's 39th ranked university in the US...so I am more skeptical than most, and have a good understanding of business and economics..practically majored in partying.  These are reasons why I believe to be qualified to critique various bar scenes.  I do regret referring to them as the mob, though.  Any self respecting criminal organization I know of actually keeps the streets free of litter and dogs.

But, if you think you should have voted for Hillary, then you are indeed a sucker and a fool.  Just more evidence of why you can't trust the Lefties with (your) money.

Really, Beirgarten operated for years with scores of working girls in there, not on the payroll.  What ever happened to that model?

You think the time of year might be having a dampening effect on the party scene down there?  I haven't been down Nana for many sleeps, but last time I was, all the usual idiots were there.  Where did they go?

Maybe they got fed up and, while you were in the US, bailed up to Issan..... but didn't leave you a note.
