Move To Paradise: Kampot

Featured Replies

Kampot, Cambodia is a little bit of paradise that is attracting many visitors because of its proximity to the beaches of Kep, 30 minutes away, and the beaches and entertainment of Sihanoukville, 110 km away, and because of its own natural beauty and serenity.

Do's and Don'ts:

Do visit to see if you would like to settle there.

Don't tell the expats who own many hotels and restaurants. They want your money, but they don't want you. They have an antiquated colonial mentality and think of Kampot as their private fiefdom. But don't let that worry you, mate. There are only about fifty of them and they could use some new blood.

Do rent a dirt bike or motorbike either in Phnom Penh, or in Kampot.

Do stay at the beautiful $15 Boray Bokar 1 Hotel in town; then walk 5 min. to the river.

Do enjoy the smiles and waves from the local Khmer's; they are generally honest and quite friendly.

Do respect the locals, and their customs. Refrain from treating them as subordinates, and they will respect you.

How does this relate to Thailand?

How does this relate to Thailand?

There are a lot of people leaving Thailand, or wanting to, because of recent changes in immigration and banking laws. There have been many threads on the subjects of both suggesting and requesting advice on alternatives.

Generally, the medical situation in Cambodia, especially outside of Phnom Penh, is pretty poor. Kampot apparently does have a qualified Belgium doctor though.

As with Thailand, most medications and more are available OTC in pharmacies.

And what's your relation to the hotel you mentioned, including the price?

Uh Oh... :o

as the" DONZ" would say " i feel trouble coming on " :o

This is a funny surreal little thread ... rather bizarre :o

"Kampot apparently does have a qualified Belgium doctor though."

*****

that of course is excellent news. i'm sure he is qualified enough to do minor jobs such as kidney transplantations, neural surgery and amputations of limbs in case of an accident.

but what about his capabilities in serious cases (headaches, bad cold and cough)?

:o

not thailand related....closed.
