The King is not a mediator: CPP

Featured Replies

A ruling CPP spokesman has slammed a political analyst for calling on the King to mediate discussions between Prime Minister Hun Sen and former opposition leader Sam Rainsy. CPP spokesman Sok Eysan’s reaction came after political analyst Lao Mong Hay and some former opposition members said King Norodom Sihamoni has not yet fully fulfilled his constitutional role in ironing out a political crisis by bringing Mr Hun Sen and Mr Rainsy to the negotiating table. “The meaning of the constitution does not stipulate that the King has a role in national reconciliation and national unity,” Mr Eysan said.

Mr Eysan said the constitution states that the King shall be a symbol of national unity and eternity and noted that the King shall be a guarantor of national independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, the protector of rights and freedom for all citizens and the guarantor of international treaties. He also said it states that the King shall assume the role of arbitrator to ensure the faithful execution of public powers. “What the analyst said is just a trick because he wants to confuse the public and it is also a trick to lure the King into violating the constitution and laws because there is no political crisis in Cambodia at all,” Mr Eysan said.

ThaiVisa, c'est aussi en français

ThaiVisa, it's also in French

ok, well thats that then

It would not be a violation at all.

If the King decided that he wished to mediate he has that right.

The Cambodian King is utterly useless, just like his father. He is completely beholden to Hun Sen and will not do anything to cross him.

HUN SEN needs a black opps visit

Unfortunately HM The King Norodom is just a figure head. HS wants absolute power and has recently stated that when he steps down his son will take control of Cambodia. Any mediation between the ruling CPP and the very popular CNRP is out of the question. I am sure China will make certain of this.
