O visa / Child - Not Married : report from Penang

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

My profile: French, 48 years old, father of a thai child, not married, and not working in Thailand. And willing to spend as much time as possible with his little family.

A rather precarious position, as far as visas for Thailand are concerned. ????

I got previously (2017) a visa O 1 year multiple entries, in Penang, with the help of (the well known) Jim.

I went back to Penang tuesday, in order to apply for a new O 1 year multiple entries, using again Jim's services.
Everything went smoothly. Jim is very nice and straightforward.

As for the paper work, no change (copy of bank book showing minimum 400 000 THB balance -important : do not forget to bring the original with you-, the mother's ID card (both sides), your passeport, house book, birth certificate... all signed photocopies, 2 ID photos.)

One detail though :

www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/1041037-non-o-vientiane-checklist-child-unmarried

Quote : "There was an announcement made by The Thai embassy in Vientiane that copies of birth certificate are no longer allowed and originals must be shown starting from October 15th. Today my visa application for Non-O (Thai child, not married) was rejected based on the new rule starting Oct 15, even its only Oct 08."

Thanks to the forum... I came prepared ! ????

Therefore, I proposed the original to Jim. But he told me that it was not necessary.

Last but not least : my passeport is brand-new (I had to make a new one, because no more pages available). Anticipating a source of possible troubles, I proposed to Jim a photocopy of my previous O visa issue by Penang Consulate. He took it.

The following day, the Consulate asked for the first page too from the old passport. Hopefully, I had it as well. And Jim was nice enough to send one his guys to my hotel to fetch the document. That's service.

So if you can't keep your old passeport when you renew it (which is the case in France, before you could keep it with a corner cut... but that's history) do not forget to make photocopies of it (the ID page and the page with the last visa issued by the Penang Consulate).

The last time i was there in Penang for ME non-o visiting Thai child, it was similar paperwork.  I had the original birth certificate, but not the original bankbook.  But he still accepted it after an initial grilling.    The tourist visas got strict there also, although not impossible. Should still be easier for SETV than Kuala Lumpur.

Good to know that it was smooth.

Q: is Jim doing any agent services  himself?  Or is everyone with Jim going to the consulate and presenting theur applications personally?

Also, how long was the wait at consulate?

No mention of any legitimacy documentation if any?

Can I assume you do not need to prove legitimacy and the name on birth certificate is evidence enough for this 1 year non O via penang?

I've got no idea. As for myself, I stayed in my hotel. Like the first time.

Yes it is, hopefully.

It might change one day for visa application, who knows ?

If I would go, I like to go prepared, no surprises

but little Jim does not reply or it is with YES or NO

asked him about costs

asked him about my chances of getting what I want / need with the papers I have = no reply

so Jim can go ....

I hate travel, I hate surprises

Did you see his "website" ? it is a 1999 tripod one pager and links don't even work

and facebook without contact me or message me option

maybe he can get things done

would have preferred he put it on facebook or "his website"

Correct, no definite answer, but contact ph# for Jim is here:
