Thailand, China sign anti-human trafficking deal

Tanakorn Sangiam

BANGKOK, 2 November 2018 (NNT) – The Thai and Chinese governments have signed an agreement to enhance the effectiveness of anti-human trafficking cooperation.

Social Development and Human Security Minister Anantaporn Kanjanatat and the China's Deputy Minister of Public Security signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Thai and Chinese governments on cooperation in the human trafficking prevention and suppression.

The MOU covers cooperation in human trafficking prevention, suppression investigation and prosecution procedures in trafficking cases, and the protection and help for trafficking victims in keeping with the human rights principles.

The Thai minister said the agreement will push forward bilateral cooperation to fight against human trafficking, improve the relationships between the two countries, and mutually develop an anti-trafficking mechanism which will yield maximum benefits to the Thai and Chinese public.

Well, if you can't trust the Thai and Chinese governments at their word, who can you trust?

My point exactly.

Interesting report by the state media. I suppose they are required to keep a positive view of developments.

Dam It. I thought it meant no more Chin Tourists.

This agreement is a thinly veiled way for the Thais to legitimize handing back Chinese and North Korean defectors as they have done several times in the past few years.

Now, they can claim the refugees were "trafficked" into Thailand by 3rd party "Human Traffickers"

When there's some inconvenience raises it's head, they'll probably claim that they're 'sub-human'.

Does that mean that Thailand and China can't compete against each other?

China and their commitments. Not worth the paper they are printed on. Same as Thailand. All for show.
