Weird Messages Eating Up Phone Credit

Featured Replies

Just yesterday i went to 7-11 to get a top up card for my 1-2-call phone.

300 bahts worth,

this morning i start getting messages in thai from a number 86296.looks like different people sending messages but using the same number.

its all in thai ,i get about 20 ++ messages within 2 minutes.then the "your credit is almost finished " message come up!!!

im just thinking that someone can use my credit to send messages

does this sound possible.?

vvvv weird

All too plainly, it can.

Info services, chat, whatever, can be charged against your credit. Pop into a shop or call AIS asap.

i just asked my thai friend who translated the final message for me-"thanks for letting us use your credit"

man do i feel used!

does this mean that next time i get a top up card they will be able to do again

Certain services can charge you for sending you SMS content. Call AIS or go into their to block the service.

have you used sms to enter a competition recently ?

please post a followup after you find out from AIS what is happening.

ok it all started when i got a message in thai. i asked my friend and he said it was something like "i want to see you blah blah blah"

so i replied "can you speak english"

and then the problem started

im waiting for AIS to call me back..i will keep posted

replying to the origional message seems to be the cause of the problem

its a nokia,6250 old one, with no bluetooth or bells or whistles.

AIS just called/

"ok what problem"

"some message me and .........blah,blah"

"ok what you want"

"i want to make sure that if i top up card again the credit wil stay and not be used by the other person"

"if you no top up credit by the 28th then the number is invalid"

"no you dont understand,i will top up today but is it safe to top up?"

""yes you can top up card anywhere."

it goes on a little longer but dont want to frustrate you the same way i was.

anyway am now waiting for someone with better english to call me back.

i hate myself for not speaking thai sometimes!!

It looks to me like the number you responded to is not a complete phone number, but some kind of service number tied into the AIS system. I suppose these things might be set up for contests and services. For example, I think there is a "service number" that lets you "register" your 1-2-Call phone for web-based SMS text messaging. If you do that, people can SMS you through the AIS web interface. But the bad news is you get charged for these incoming messages.

I think by sending back a reply you "registered" for something. Based on the number, AIS should certainly be able to identify the abuser, or at least disable the abuser.

Someone with more experience on the 1-2-Call system can confirm this, but I think you should never respond to any SMS that is not a complete phone number. I forget how many digits this is but think it would be 7 or 8.

Also, I think you have to get AIS to "unregister" you from whatever you did, or your next top off card might be drained as well. Either do that or get a new SIM card "Get Start" package.

Let us know how this develops.

ok..sorry but have been away from the com for a few days.

sunday a very nice man from customer care AIS called me and after a few minutes, understood everything.he said that they could not refund the money lost(no problem),i had unknowingly by replying to the origional text message subscribed to chat and someone had used my credit.

he cave me a number to message with the message "STOP"

once i did this i recieved a message saying that CHAT HAS BEEN DISABLED

very very easy and no need to change number.

AIS has one satisfied customer.
