You have to because no one else could love you!

In my 70's now so find it easy to do comparisons. Instead of right and wrong, look at fair or unfair instead.

Fonda volunteered to go visit Hanoi her right to choose where she goes. she had that choice.

Also in that land were 18/19yr olds who had not volunteered, but, sent there. They had no choice.

.

We can agree/disagree on war, what we should never disagree is the folk sent there, thinking

"The folk at home, hate us"

Those folk fighting should feel supported. Bob Hope went there amongst others to help morale, Jane Fonda did not help morale so 'persona non grata'.

What she did were unfair to those who had no choice to be there, she did wrong!!

I would not go that far.

However, she was extremely misguided, and still is, probably.

Bad actor in more ways than one.

Agree, just hang and draw, leave out the quartering

She should have been shot as a traitor 55 years ago.

No, shot. She was actively supporting an enemy of the United States in a war zone, in the enemy's camp.
I see a lot of that in the current administration, too, and support legal action against them as well.

She did apologize for sitting on the AA gun and regretted what she did. Like many she opposed the war, and some Americans treated the soldiers like crap when they returned. Hopefully they also changed their minds, realizing many soldiers didn't want to be there themselves. That she stayed here continuing as an actress shows many didn't take her seriously, as well as those who opposed the troops doing their jobs. I've always remained neutral as I don't trust either side enough.

So, you would not have one Jane become four Janes?

What is the fun in that?

Jane was a great actress

"Jane Fonda has expressed deep regret and apologized"

I accept her apologies for the past transgressions and resolve to move on with my life.....Hating an 88 year old borders on something akin to elder abuse. .....I enjoyed her work as an entertainer.

____________________________________________________________________________________________

Jane Fonda has expressed deep regret and apologized for specific actions during her 1972 trip to North Vietnam, particularly the infamous photograph on an anti-aircraft gun, while maintaining her overall opposition to the war. [1, 2]

Regrets and Apologies

  • The Anti-Aircraft Photo: Fonda has repeatedly stated that posing on a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft battery was a "huge, huge mistake" that she will "go to her grave regretting". [1, 2]

  • Message to Troops: She expressed sorrow over the "horrible" message that the image sent, acknowledging that it made many people believe she was opposed to U.S. soldiers rather than the war's leadership. [1, 2]

  • Pain Caused: She has apologized directly for the hurt and anger her actions caused to Vietnam veterans and their families. [1]

Many men were forced to fight in a war they didn't believe in, which was started with a lie.

From AI

1. Growing Skepticism and the "Fulbright Hearings" (1966–1968)

As the war dragged on and casualties mounted, lawmakers began to suspect they had been conned. In 1966, Senator J. William Fulbright—who had originally rushed the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution through the Senate—launched the highly publicized Fulbright Hearings. [1, 2, 3, 4]

  • The Investigation: The Senate Foreign Relations Committee investigated the incident and discovered that the USS Maddox was not on a "routine patrol" as Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara had claimed. Instead, it was on an active electronic espionage mission directly supporting South Vietnamese commando raids against North Vietnam. [1, 2]

  • The Sense of Betrayal: Senators felt a profound sense of anger. Declassified executive session transcripts later revealed that an internal committee report accused McNamara of "misleading the committee in testimony". Lawmakers openly lamented that their trust in the administration’s credibility had been weaponized to bypass the Constitution.

Nice gesture, but does that really fix anything? The crystal bowl is still broken.
