A pick-up truck driver was arrested in Surat Thani after he sped through a checkpoint, with an estimated 1,000 bottles of foreign liquor.

Thattapol Silapa-rojphanit, 41, from Songkhla, was arrested at 7am after he sped past a checkpoint in Wieng Sra district.

Police at the checkpoint radioed their counterparts a checkpoint in Ban Na San district to make the arrest.

The liquor bottles were found in 60 crates hidden under piles of black plastic bags.

Thattapol said he was given Bt7,000 to drive the cargo from Songkhla’s Hat Yai district to Bangkok.

The pickup was obviously loaded to capacity - assuming 1kg/bottle that would equate to one tonne.

It is interesting that the brand names were blurred so there is no way to know if the spirits one buys at the local grog shop are smuggled product.

Looks like Hong Tong and Sang Som, but I could be mistaken.

Foreign liquor according to  the OP.

Yes, it looks like you can see the Famous Grouse bird on the side of one box. Perhaps Red Lable the other then? Either way, there's going to be one heck of a party down the station tonight.

I think some of you should read the post before dashing into print.

How can you smuggle Liquor only made in Thailand back over the Thai/ Malay border ???

If ASEAN was pushing for "Free Trade" this would not happen but that is a pipe dream.

Each country wants their "cut"
